Fog machines
Fog machines: mystical atmosphere and spatial lighting effects
No club, no theater, no concert without them: Fog machines are popular effect devices when it comes to playing with light and spatiality at events. In the LTT online store you will find many different professional fog machines, the appropriate fog fluids and the matching accessories. With fog machines you can create stage fog in a controlled and safe way to create a dark and magical atmosphere or to enchant the audience with exciting light shows.
What is a fog machine?
A fog machine creates artificial fog by vaporizing a special fog fluid. There are normal fog machines and floor foggers. Artificial fog has been a popular effect device for centuries to play with spatial depth, light and visibility on stage. Artificial fog is very versatile:
• Mages disappear into the background.
• Unexpected things emerge from the haze.
• A dream world is created before our eyes.
• In the club, the music experience intensifies.
• The theater audience is catapulted directly into a nocturnal forest or other mystical place.
What are fog machines used for?
Fog machines are used on stage, in movies and at live events such as parties, concerts or club nights.
Light shows
Stage fog increases the spatial effect of spotlights and laser beams by making the wandering light cones visible. Incidentally, hazers also create this effect, but without the opaque fog, instead using finely atomized water droplets.
Experience the space in a whole new way
Artificial fog covers part of the (stage) space and plays with depth, blurriness and contours. With it we represent the hidden, subconscious and hidden. The haze from the fog machine, combined with other effects such as colored light, spotlights, laser beams and even soap bubbles, looks different every time, but always mystical and enchanting.
Fog machines for technical use
Fog machines and floor fog machines are not only used for surprising moments on stage or in the disco, but also in many technical areas:
• Firefighters use dense artificial fog to train for use when smoke is present.
• Artificial fog also makes air currents visible. Thus, it is important for research on wind tunnels.
• Burglar alarm systems use artificial fog to take away burglars' vision and thus disorient them.
• Model railroaders use artificial fog vaporization to make smoke rise from locomotives and chimneys.
How does a fog machine work?
For room-filling or ground-covering artificial fog, all you need is a fog machine and the appropriate fluid.
This is how you proceed:
1. Fill in fluid. The fogging fluid consists of distilled water and pure glycols or glycerol.
2. Preheat the fog machine.
3. Evaporate fluid. A pump forces the fluid into the heating element. This has a small diameter so that the liquid is vaporized in a controlled manner. The fine aerosol is distributed as a mist in the room.
How is artificial ground fog created?
Bottom foggers also work by heating and evaporation. Here, however, the fog is additionally cooled so that it sinks to the bottom. Depending on the type of device and fluid, the artificial fog properties are variable, such as density and service life. The original method using dry ice is still popular because it produces a particularly white and dense fog. However, the cost of procuring and storing dry ice is high. We therefore carry various fluids specially adapted to the machines that reliably keep the fog close to the ground. Liquid carbon dioxide or cryogenic liquid nitrogen are used here. The gaseous substances evaporate quickly, cool down in the process and creep along the ground.
Important features of fog machines
Remote control and DMX
Fog machines are often permanently mounted in places that are difficult to access, for example on trusses or behind protective grids. For this purpose, they are usually controlled by remote control or DMX (Digital Multiplex).
Color fog
By means of built-in LEDs, for example in the RGBA spectrum, fog machines color the fog fountains in all desired colors. Thanks to the alpha phase, you can also vary the opacity.
Really a lot of power
We carry fog machines with different power levels and for all needs in the LTT store. While you can get by with a smaller model for the party or magic show, you need the full power for large events. For this purpose, there are professional devices with 1200 W heating elements and high-performance pumps that blow powerful fog fountains into the air.
What do I have to consider when using fog machines?
• The fog from fog machines can set off optical smoke detectors. So deactivate them in advance and use another alarm system.
• Use only the appropriate fog fluid for your machine.
• If you need a particularly short heating phase, reach for a professional device with intelligent temperature control and suitability for continuous use.
