Multi-channel amplifiers
Multi-channel amplifier
For complex sound solutions such as surround sound in the home theater or beguiling sound experiences at events, you need a good multi-channel amplifier. It is the heart and control center of your sound installation. From here, you control all connected speakers to achieve the perfect result. In simple terms, you connect several loudspeakers and speakers to this small or larger device, each of which serves different frequency ranges. The high and mid frequencies usually come from one type of speaker and the bass from active or passive subwoofers.
Application areas of multichannel amplifiers
Multi-channel amplifiers or surround amplifiers deliver what their name promises: they provide full amplifier power with high-quality sound results wherever things may get a little louder: In large rooms, in the event location or in the party cellar, a larger listening zone must be reliably covered. For this purpose, you distribute different speakers systematically in the room and get several sound zones. This is the only way to enjoy music or movies without distortion, even at high volumes. In the private sector, multi-channel amplifiers are mostly used in home theaters, home studios or party rooms.
Multichannel amplifier: the important power amplifier
Multi-channel amplifiers, also known as surround amplifiers or multi-channel power amplifiers, take on the final technical processing step of sound signals before they are played out. Amplifiers electronically amplify (amplifier for short) frequencies and thus bring them to an equal working volume. This final stage is preceded by various other pre-stages, i.e. sound processing steps. This can start with a microphone preamplifier. The goal is to reproduce tones, sounds and frequencies in the desired mode (hard/soft, thin/thick, neutral/colored) clearly and without distortion. In short: power amplifiers pass on the signals from the preamplifiers with the correct voltage.
Why a separate multichannel amplifier?
Power amplifiers are important components in the reproduction of sound signals and they have a decisive influence on their quality and effect. Amplifiers increase the amplitude and current of low-level input signals so that they can be adequately played out through loudspeakers. The preamplifier prepares the signals for amplification, the power amplifier gives them the power boost, so to speak - and with a very specific sound character! A separate power amplifier means one thing above all: no annoying interfering signals. The preamp frequencies are very sensitive and susceptible to distortion, noise, incorrect polarity and interference levels. If the power amplifier works as a separate multi-channel amplifier, you can look forward to a crystal-clear, transparent sound experience.

Hear more
Each channel is a line path for an audio signal or a limited frequency range. It is important that the transmission paths are able to reproduce the desired frequencies in a technically flawless manner and pass them on amplified, so that a clean sound image is possible in the first place. If, for example, all frequencies of a song from high to low run through one loudspeaker, the piece will sound flat, thin and mushy because the necessary power and technical performance are simply missing. If you route the same piece of music to different speakers using a good multi-channel amplifier, it sounds immediately deeper, clearer and more nuanced. That means: We actually hear more of the music, especially the quiet tones.
3-D listening experience
There is another reason to reach for the multi-channel amplifier: In the home theater or on the dance floor, there's nothing better than when the music envelops us and we can be right in the middle of the action: Clear voices, driving bass, subtle sounds - to hear all this, you need a sound solution with a multi-channel amplifier.
Multi-channel amplifiers: How to create the surround experience
If you want to immerse yourself completely in the sound world of your films or music, you need the right equipment:
• A multi-channel amplifier that picks up the sound signals and amplifies them professionally
• Media that are prepared for surround, for example DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, or broadcasts with a corresponding soundtrack for surround sound.
• The appropriate amount of speakers, usually between 4 and 10 pieces; common to use these essentials:
• two front speakers, placed right and left in front of the listeners
• one center speaker, placed centrally and frontally
• two rear speakers, mounted laterally behind the listeners
• a subwoofer (bass speaker), placed anywhere in the room - the main thing is that it booms properly!
