Stroboscope – a device with great appeal and history

The stroboscopic effect is certainly not unfamiliar to professionals. It refers to a seemingly decelerated or reversed sequence of periodic processes. Or to put it simply: flashes! If light flashes are emitted in a dark environment in short bursts, movements appear choppy like a sequence of still images. The discovery of this effect was also the origin of the stroboscope. At the beginning of the 19th century, Simon Ritter von Stampfer used this effect to animate pictures. He later coined the term stroboscope.
