DMX control consoles
DMX controller - lighting control made easy
Whether for a live performance at a festival or a lively party in your own basement - you can only create the right atmosphere with a convincing lighting concept. For this, however, you need not only spotlights and lighting effects, but also a suitable lighting control system. A DMX controller is almost indispensable. In the meantime, DMX has established itself as an industry standard, because it simplifies the central control of lighting technology. Only in this way is the coordination of elaborate light shows possible. In our online store, we offer DMX controllers from renowned manufacturers that are suitable for various applications.
What actually is DMX?
The abbreviation DMX (also known as DMX512, DMX-512/1990 or DMX512-A) stands for Digital Multiplex. This is a standardized digital control protocol that is primarily used in stage and event technology. Especially the lighting is in the focus. So you can control intelligent lighting systems, dimmer bars, moving heads and effect devices with a DMX controller. The connection standard ensures that the control signals reach the lighting technology and can be processed by it. The functions are distributed over different channels.
Full control with DMX controllers
To create an impressive light show, you also need an appropriate lighting control system. After all, the overall concept often consists of a multitude of spotlights and effects that have to work in constant interaction for a successful performance. With a DMX controller you connect all components to a network. In addition, the devices from our online store offer innovative control options.
For example, you can connect several elements to a group and control them together, fall back on pre-programmed presets or get creative yourself with user-defined programs. Automatic operation or synchronization with the music are also part of the functional range of many DMX controllers. Additional knobs and faders allow quick adjustment of color or brightness. We offer compact solutions for free-standing use and light consoles for fixed installations.
DMX controller - wiring and addressing
DMX control signals are transmitted serially via the interface, accordingly you have to wire the components within the setup also serially. So you connect the output of the DMX controller with the DMX input of the first fixture and then you can add further lighting elements via the DMX output. Up to 32 devices can be connected per line. If this is not enough for you, you can use DMX controllers with several separate DMX outputs.
For the transmission of DMX signals are fundamentally suitable different cable types. The official standard is the colloquially called DMX cable variants with 3- or 5-pin XLR connector. They work with a characteristic impedance of 110 ohms, which ensures interference-free signal transmission. In principle, however, 3-pin XLR cables are also suitable, which are sufficient at least for simple configurations. Once you have reached the last spotlight, you should install a terminator with a terminating resistor. This way you avoid signal interference caused by reflections at the end of the signal chain.
You assign a specific address to each fixture via the DMX controller. Depending on the type and selected mode, individual devices also occupy several channels. You can use this to adjust the functions. If you give several spotlights the same start address, they run synchronously. Do you want to control a small lighting system - for example for use in a private party room - or an elaborate light show? Depending on the requirements, we offer the right DMX controller in our range.
