Profile spotlights (profilers)
Stage set - spots on!
Profile spotlights are made for the big stage - and it is not without reason that they are a part of the basic equipment of theatre stages, concert halls or other event halls and venues where individual stage areas or people have to be specifically illuminated. Profile spotlights are particularly suitable as pre-stage spots (mounted in the auditorium) or as follow spots for manual panning. By using a profile spotlight, the light is usually cut off with a hard, straight edge. This is a popular technique, for example, when the entire pre-stage area except the orchestra pit is to be illuminated.
Targeted illumination of people and objects
Profile spotlights are also used for lighting objects or persons when the light cone has to be clearly shifted (this is the term used for limiting the light of a profile spotlight). This limiting also takes place through a very hard shadow and very high contrast range, which in turn requires brightening when a film is used. The classic profile spotlights usually have a double lens system for high light concentration in case of greater illumination distance.
Lend a clear profile with profile spotlights
Profile spotlights are mostly used when light has to be shifted more or less along a line. Moreover, this type of spotlight can lend a distinct profile, thus creating edges. It is used to make the light beam "angular". In addition, most profile spotlights use so-called "gobos". These are light stencils that project, for example, foliage patterns or the like.
How profile spotlights work
Profile spotlights produce a hard-edged light beam. For this, the light is directed from the lamp through a special system of several lenses, from the lamp housing through the tube and out of the spotlight. The system usually has four so-called sliders to limit the light beam. In addition, most profile spotlights are equipped with an iris diaphragm, which is used to reduce the light cone. Plus there are two lenses in the tube that can be moved against each other to make the light cone larger or smaller. We offer different profile spotlights from leading manufacturers such as ETC, DTS, Strandlighting, Robert Julit, Eurolite and Showtec.
