PAR spotlights for event technology

Especially in the field of event technology and stage equipment, the PAR spotlight or the parabolic reflector lamp (Parabolic Aluminium Reflector) has become a very frequently used lighting product. The origin of PAR spotlights lies in the parabolic reflector spotlights that were used in the field of theatre. Often referred to as a PAR can because of its shape, this spotlight comes in a variety of shapes: the most common variants are the original long form (longnose) and a short form (shortnose).

PAR spotlights - the original spotlights

The diameter of the standardised casing - or the circular light-emitting surface - is given in eighths of an inch. PAR 16, 20, 30, 36, 38, 56 and 64 are used particularly often. The most commonly used forms are PAR 64 longnose and PAR 56 shortnose for wide-area illumination and PAR 36 as pinspot.

Versatile use on large and small stages

Due to their lightweight aluminium casing, PAR spotlights are especially popular for mobile use and are therefore frequently used at many different types of events. Their field of application and the manifold application examples range from large stages at concerts or opera performances to small cabaret or theatre stages. PAR spotlights are now available in both long and short variants - as outdoor PAR, colour-changer PAR or LED PAR spotlights.

Simple functionality - great effect!

The PAR spotlight technology is relatively simple: there are equal number of red, green and blue LEDs in the spotlight. These can be dimmed from 0-100% per colour and thus enable the display of countless colour variations. In the course of time, PAR spotlights have been developed further and today, in addition to the long and short variants, there are outdoor PAR spotlights, studio PAR, LED PAR, colour changer PAR etc. There is one relative similarity between all PAR spotlights - their look.

The casings are available in various sizes and designs. The diameter of the standardised casing is given in eighths of an inch. Commonly used spotlights for stage are PAR 36, PAR 56 and PAR 64 in short and long variants as well as in the floorspot variant with two holders. PAR 16, PAR 20 and PAR 30 casings are becoming more and more popular in the decoration, shop fitting and hobby sectors.

Special lamps for PAR spotlights

PAR spotlights are divided into groups from PAR 16 to PAR 64, where PAR 36, PAR 56 and PAR 64 are the types that are clearly the most frequently used ones in professional event technology. A light bulb must be inserted into them as illuminant. These are available in narrow, medium and flood versions and thus influence the shape of the beam.
